Born in Armenia in 1966, Vache Sharafyan graduated with distinction from the Yerevan State Conservatory’s Composition Department in 1990. He is a prizewinner of the All-Union Composers’ Competition in Moscow (1985). As a composer for the renowned Silk Road Project beginning in 2001, his compositions The Sun, the Wine and the Wind of Time and The Morning Scent of the Acacia’s Song were performed by cellist Yo-Yo Ma and the Silk Road Ensemble at the Cologne Philharmonie, Brussels Philharmonie, and Amsterdam Concertgebouw. In the United States, Sharafyan’s works have been featured at Carnegie Hall, the University of California, Berkeley, Stanford University, and with the Chicago Symphony at Orchestra Hall. Mr. Sharafyan is a winner of the 2005 MATA Festival Award in New York. From 1992-96, Vache Sharafyan was a Professor of music theory and sacred music at the Armenian Theological Seminary in Jerusalem. In 1994, he authored a Book of Chants for Jerusalem’s Holy Sepulcher Church. His compositions have been performed in Armenia, Israel, France, Canada, Germany, Belgium, Holland, Italy, Thailand, Hungary, and the United States. Currently, Vache Sharafyan teaches composition at the Yerevan State Conservatory in Armenia. |
