Joining the Los Angeles Philharmonic as principal keyboardist in 2001, pianist Joanne Pearce Martin performs regularly with the orchestra on six instruments (and occasionally on an Apple Macintosh computer!). She also appears frequently on the Philharmonic's chamber music and Green Umbrella series. A graduate of the Curtis Institute of Music, she has performed as a soloist with many orchestras in the United States and abroad, including the Philadelphia Orchestra. Also in great demand as a collaborative artist, she has concertized with such artists as Joshua Bell, Lynn Harrell and Iona Brown. Ms. Martin has appeared at major summer music festivals, and at concert series spanning four continents. A dedicated chamber music player, she is a founding member of Santa Barbara's Camerata Pacifica, and performs frequently at other local chamber music series such as Pacific Serenades, which premieres a new work during every program. She also enjoys playing the two-piano repertoire with her husband, Gavin Martin. Her playing has been described by the Los Angeles Times as possessing "unusual fervor and fluency,” and The New York Times has hailed her as "a superb collaborator." She has performed on all of the major American television networks, and recorded commercially for Centaur, Summit, and Albany records. When she is not making music, you may find Joanne up in the air – she is a master-rated skydiver and licensed pilot.
