Cellist Antonio Lysy is an artist of international stature. A prizewinner in the Italian Oblach International Cello Competition, he has performed as a soloist worldwide and in major concert halls, including the Royal Festival Hall, the Concertgebouw, the Tonhalle, the Salle Pleyel, Wigmore Hall, Sala Verdi, and the Berlin Philharmonie. Lysy has appeared as a soloist with such orchestras as the Royal Philharmonic and Philharmonia Orchestras of London, the Camerata Academica of Salzburg, the Zurich Tonhalle, the Montreal Symphony, and has collaborated with distinguished conductors such as Temirkanov, Dutoit, Menuhin, and Vegh. His 2004-05 season highlights included a return performance with the Montreal Symphony Orchestra for the premiere of a triple concerto by composer Denis Bouliane, alongside Chantal Juillet (violin) and Louis Lortie (piano). This concert was broadcast live by the European Broadcasting Union in over 15 countries. His love and commitment to chamber music is demonstrated by his musical directorship and founding in 1989 of the annual Incontri in Terra di Siena Chamber Music Festival in Tuscany, Italy. Mr. Lysy has recorded extensively for CBC Radio, BBC Radio, Classic FM, and other European radio networks. His live recording of solo cello repertoire by Bach, Berio, Henze and Walton was released on the Pelléas label and received high critical acclaim. In addition to his concert career, for a number of years, Lysy taught at McGill University in Montreal, and was a visiting professor at the International Menuhin Music Academy in Switzerland. In 2003 he accepted a professorship at the University of California, Los Angeles, where he now resides with his family.
